CITY OF TRUMANN: Update On Cedar Park

16

City of Trumann issued the following announcement on June 23.

After replacing the skate park equipment, adding ADA accessible sidewalks, taking down diseased trees and replanting, as well as reworking the Cedar Park Ball field and building 2 new pavilions, we have turned our attention to the tennis courts. Pine trees that were planted near the courts years ago have grown and become a problem: they drop pine needles on the courts and grounds and the roots tend to cause problems by growing under pavement. The decision to remove the pine trees is to make it easier to repair and maintain the court surface and keep the it cleaner. We also took down some of the fencing in order to access the courts for improvements; necessary fencing will be put back.

We are in process of applying for a Parks grant to resurface the courts and connect them with sidewalks. An estimate for the resurface is around $53,000; that does not include sidewalks, any new playground equipment nor light improvements. The Parks grant is a very competitive grant that requires a 50% match. The Mayor will be meeting with a State Parks Representative who will look at the City's 7 parks and make suggestions about improvements. This evaluation is also required for the grant application. The City's park plan is to prioritize park needs and work on them item by item.

The Mayor has spoken with Superintendent Brandie Williams about the court renovations and the City and School will work together for future use of the courts.
