City of Trumann issued the following announcement on May 21.
The Trumann Fire Department was dispatched to a large fire involving the tornado debris pile located near Oak St. at approximately 10:30pm last night. This is the second fire that has been intentionally set by a person or persons in the past few weeks. Due to late reporting of this fire, dense packing by heavy machinery, and high winds the decision was made to control the fire rather than extinguish it.
Firefighters, along with Public Works employees on heavy machinery, were on scene for 4 hours. Fire department personnel cleared the scene at 2:50am when dispatched to a residential house fire.
The burning debris pile did not present an immediate danger to life and health, therefore extinguishment was delayed until the daylight hours for a safer approach to this fire.
Please bear with us as we attempt to control this fire over the next several hours.
