ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY-BEEBE: A-State to Celebrate National Day On Writing With Guest Speaker And Special Activities

Arkansas State University-Beebe issued the following announcement on Oct. 14.

National Day on Writing is coming up Wednesday, Oct. 20, so the Department of English, Philosophy and World Languages, along with the A-State Writing Center, are sponsoring celebration events at Arkansas State University.

 The planning committee has announced four ways to participate in this year’s observance throughout the week.

 Journalist and author George Jared will speak about writing and publishing, from 11 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, Oct. 20, on the west side of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.

 All-day poetry “pop-up” open mic events will be held 9 to 11 a.m. and from noon to 3 p.m., before and after Jared’s talk Wednesday.

 Online, the committee is repeating its “Letters to Strangers” campaign, with details online. This is a chance for students to write a letter anonymously to another A-State student, beginning Monday, Oct. 18, and continuing all week.

 At the writing center, the are inviting people to share #whyiwrite on a Post-it, and then post those reasons on social media. Those posting will be eligible for a prize giveaway. This activity also continues throughout the week.
