Arkansas State University-Beebe issued the following announcement on Sept. 15.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has announced it has awarded $316,835 in scholarship value to 46 scholarship recipients from LULAC councils 750, 771, 772 and 773.

Two of the recipients are Arkansas State University students, announced Dr. Lonnie R. Williams, vice chancellor for A-State’s Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.

Faith Ochoa of Little Rock, a junior majoring in health studies and Spanish, received the award for the second consecutive year. She is a graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock.

Fernanda Posadas Menjivar of Sherwood, a junior majoring in theatre, is A-State’s other representative in this year’s group of LULAC scholarship recipients. She is a graduate of North Little Rock High School.

LULAC says its mission is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States. The councils are committed to advancing opportunities for Hispanic Americans in Central Arkansas.

To honor these students and the recipients from seven other Arkansas institutions, LULAC is planning a month-long celebration that coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, they will highlight the scholarship recipients and sponsors, including A-State, on their social media and website. LULAC is also planning for the organization’s annual scholarship dinner and gala.
