St. John the Baptist Church – Cabot issued the following announcement on Aug. 15.
With renewed concern about COVID and its variants being so widespread, let us be certain not to neglect the supernatural means of grace which God has given us. In addition to other prayers and the sacraments, the Cross of St. Zacharias of Jerusalem is a sacramental which signifies the words of a prayer used with great effect against a plague in Jerusalem during the time of St. Zacharias, Patriarch of Jerusalem from 609-632. (He presided over the return of the True Cross to Jerusalem in 627, after thirteen years in the hands of invaders.) Later, during a time of plague, the fathers of the Council of Trent wore this sacramental image and found it to be “an advantageous remedy against the contagion.” Blessed holy cards with the image of the Cross of St. Zacharias are available in the vestibule; please take and carry them. The full text of the prayer was sent by email to the parish list; anyone unable to print a copy himself may please speak with the Parish Secretary to obtain a copy
