Please join MTCC for the opening of “Black School Excellence: The Legacy of Dunbar” on Thursday, October 7, 5:30-7:40. We will live stream the opening guest speakers on Facebook live. The in person event will allow guests to see the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments. No RSVP is required.
“Black School Excellence: The Legacy of Dunbar” is a reimagining of MTCC’s first permanent exhibition, “Your Guiding Hand: Little Rock’s Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, 1929-1955 (2008-2010).” It focuses on the standards of excellence displayed by African American students, teachers, and administrators at Dunbar High School despite the obstacles that had to be overcome. It also explores how integration impacted that standard. Dunbar High School was said to be the premier source of Black education in the state of Arkansas, producing many future leaders. The exhibit features artifacts from the MTCC collection and the National Dunbar and Horace Alumni Association.
The MTCC gift shop will be open during the event with special Dunbar themed merchandise. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 9 to 5 excluding state holidays.
